PENGUIN BOOK COVER AWARDS
The Diary of a Young Naturalist is a evocative, raw and a beautifully written novel showcasing the natural world from the perspective of 15 year old autistic teenager. Dara has written this book with a sense of awe and wonder describing in detail his encounters in his garden and in the wild. With references to a wide range of species that lure you into being immersed in the atmosphere this book creates.
THE BRIEF:
Design a cover that is a beautiful package that does justice for Dara's deeply intimate and sensitive memoir about his joy of the natural world, just as the book breaks the boundaries of traditional nature-writing. Whilst still appealing to Dara's readership it should resonate with a much wider audience.

MY APPROACH:
Engaging, reflective and beautiful is some of the words I wanted my cover to impersonate. Making sure the audience felt connected through my design was important by using a hand drawn illustration. I believe a design with such raw and intimate detail needs to be presented in a way that captures the pure emotion expressed within the book.
